2017 Syracuse Volunteer Citizen of the Year Award

Recognition and reward

The Volunteer Citizen of the Year Award is an extension of Direct Energy's employee volunteer programs that encourages company employees to volunteer their time and energy to causes and organizations in their local community. The award itself will consist of:

$1,000 cash prize to the winner;

$5,000 cash grant to the winner’s organization/cause of choice in their community;

bullet point

Recognition of the winner's achievement through a commemorative award.

Online nomination forms must be submitted by Sunday, June 23rd at 11:59 pm EST. Mail in entry forms must be postmarked by Saturday, June 22nd, 2013 and received no later than June 27th, 2013.

A selection committee, formed by representatives from Syracuse Media Group and Direct Energy, will review all award nominations and select the winning individual or group.

The Volunteer Citizen of the Year Award is open to legal residents of Onondaga, Madison, Oswego, Cayuga, Tompkins, Cortland and Oneida counties who are 18 years or older. Applicants can either self-nominate or be nominated by another individual or group. Nominations should be no longer than 750 words in length and must detail the specific contribution the individual or group has made to the local community through improving the quality of life for fellow citizens. The nomination must also profile the designated organization and how that organization would use the $5,000 donation.
